Después de pasear por la ciudad tanto Ash, Misty y Brock llegan al gimnasio de Ciudad Verde para la última medalla regional de Ash y el pase al torneo de la Liga Pokémon; la emoción de este hecho hace que Pikachu encienda una fogata al aire libre cerca del gimnasio, cosa que a Misty no le gusta y por eso le llama la atención ya que quemó la zapatilla de Ash, aunque lo hizo con el fin de calentarlo para la batalla, pero en ese momento llegó Gary con su grupo de animadoras.
