En este capítulo Ash y sus amigos llegan al Cañón Abuelo donde hay mucha gente llevando picos y palas de los entre la gente estaba Gary, quien les dice que se está llevando a cabo la "Gran Fiebre del Fósil Pokémon", en donde todos excavan para encontrar fósiles Pokémon. Mientras todos excavan Gary creyó encontrar lo que suponía que era el cerebro de un Pokémon extinto pero resultó ser Estiércol de Pokémon fosilizado.
