El episodio empieza en el laboratorio del Profesor Oak, mientras el Profesor Oak toma un té. Suena el teléfono y el Krabby de Ash se lo lleva al Profesor Oak. La llamada es de Ash que le enseña su cuarta medalla al Profesor. El Profesor Oak se alegra, pero menciona que Gary y los demás ya tienen cinco medallas y ya han pasado por Ciudad Azulona. Ash se enfurece más todavía cuando el Profesor le cuenta que Gary ha capturado treinta Pokémon. El Profesor Oak menciona que Ash debería capturar más Pokémon con el fin de convertirse en un mejor entrenador. Tras terminar la llamada, Ash se queda deprimido.
