El episodio comienza con un repaso de lo ocurrido anteriormente, finalizando con Ash listo para su batalla de gimnasio. En la batalla Clair saca a su Kingdra y Ash escoge a Pikachu por tener ventaja contra un Pokémon tipo agua. Pikachu empieza con Impactrueno pero no surte ningún efecto en Kingdra y este lanza un feroz tornado el cual Pikachu trata de esquivarlo pero es atrapado por el mismo.
