El episodio comienza con un repaso del episodio anterior, después se ve a Ash investigando en su Pokédex datos acerca de Gengar, pero el Pokédex le dice que los detalles sobre este Pokémon son desconocidos. Brock le dice a Ash que planee su estrategia para derrotar a Morti que usará pokémon fantasma, en ese momento la enfermera Joy le da a Ash a sus 6 Pokémon y le comenta que debe usar a Noctowl como su arma secreta y que lo debe usar ya que con su Visión en el capítulo anterior había derrotado a varios Gastly.
