Todo comienza con Ash y sus amigos llegando a un lago que curiosamente se llama "Lago May", al otro lado del lago logran ver un Illumise y un Volbeat, la Enfermera Joy aparece, y Brock como es costumbre se vuelve loco, Joy les cuenta de un festival en que Illumise y Volbeat bailan y según una leyenda si una pareja de enamorados ve danzar a esos Pokémon les traera buena suerte. Joy presenta a dos entrenadores, Romeo y Julieta, Brock se vuelve a enamorar pero Max y May lo detienen.
