Nuestros héroes continúan su viaje por Johto, cuando notan que hay unos árboles sin hojas, lo que les parece extraño pero al final ven que hay otro árbol lleno de Pokémon Bichos comiendo la savia del árbol. Ash revisa en su Pokédex y dice que son unos Heracross, entonces decide atrapar a uno pero en eso aparece un guarda bosques llamado Woodruff quien le dice que, aunque es libre de atrapar a uno, su acto podría causar mas daño al bosque y Ash pregunta por qué.
