Light idea un plan para poder salvar a Misa, pues si no lo hace, Rem lo matará. Haciendo que L lo ponga en observación durante un periodo de tiempo, Yagami tendrá que sacrificarse al igual que Misa, para poder salvarse y de igual manera a Misa. Soichiro —el padre de Light— hace el mismo sacrificio pues si su hijo fuera culpable el sería capaz de hacer cosas inimaginables. Light renuncia a la propiedad de su Death Note para borrar sus recuerdos. En las noticias se informa que Kira había asesinado a más criminales y L se siente confundido por el cambio en la mirada y actitud de Light. Intenta convencerlo de que confiese pero Light sin recuerdos del Death Note, se mantiene firme diciendo que él no es Kira.
