L invita a Light para que les ayude en el caso. Le muestran los videos que han recibido supuestamente enviados por Kira, para encontrar alguna pista en la voz del lector de audio, haciéndole escuchar las grabaciones confiscadas por el equipo. Secretamente L quiere probar la capacidad de análisis de Light y llega a la conclusión de que él y Kira no pueden ser la misma persona. Por otra parte, el segundo Kira, Misa Amane, se encuentra hablando con un shinigami, llamado Rem. Light decide conocer al segundo Kira en persona, así que le envía una respuesta.
