Rukia conversa con Aaoniero, quien no solo tiene la misma apariencia de Kaien sino también su modo de hablar y su forma de moverse. Aaoniero le cuenta a Rukia que cuando él, supuestamente Kaien, fue poseído por el hollow y más tarde traído al Hueco mundo, su cuerpo se regeneró y tomó nuevamente el control de su cuerpo. Sin embargo, después de la explicación, Aaoniero ataca sorpresivamente a Rukia para vengarse de su muerte. Al ver que Rukia está dispuesta a ofrecer su vida sin resistencia, Aaoniero se retracta diciendo que estaba bromeando y le pide a cambio matar a sus cuatro amigos. Justo después de este acto, Rukia reconoce a Aaoniero como un impostor y lo ataca con su shikai.
