Kaoru, Sanosuke y Yahiko se quedan en el dōjō reparando y limpiando; mientras que Kenshin, a petición de Kaoru, se dirige a pescar ya que no tienen nada que cenar. Él va al río con Ayame y Suzume y no está teniendo mucha suerte con la pesca, en eso ve a un pescador que parece muy experimentado. Unos rufianes atacan a una persona y el pescador la defiende, pero Kenshin nota una habilidad especial en él. Las niñas se acercan y así el pescador le cuenta a Kenshin su historia: Su nombre es Rinosuke y era un estudiante de kendo.
