El alquimista Iron Blood (Basque Grand) tiene un enfrentamiento con Scar, al final Scar triunfa dejando el cadáver de Iron Blood, más tarde Hugues, Alex Armstrong y otros soldados van a llevarse el cuerpo del alquimista. Los hermanos Elric se van a vivir con Shou Tucker (El Alquimista de la Vida), su hija Nina y su perro Alexander, por sugerencia de Roy Mustang, con el objetivo de obtener información de como regresar a la normalidad sus cuerpos. Se acerca la prueba de certificación de Alquimista Estatal de Tucker, quien al no tener otra opción transmuta a su hija y al perro en una Quimera Parlante. Los hermanos se sienten frustrados al no poder salvar a Nina, que posteriormente es asesinada por Scar, quien también mata a Tucker.
