Por la cantidad de energía negativa que las esferas fueron acumulando a través de los años, a medida que se pedían deseos con demasiada frecuencia, llegaron a afectarlas. Lo peor, es que toda esa energía negativa se descargó dando origen a un nuevo dragón con energías malignas, que no tardó en robarle las esferas a Goku y los demás. Nacen los Dragones Oscuros y desastres de distinto tipo ocurren por todo el mundo. La única forma de recuperarlas es venciendo a diferentes dragones malignos, por lo que Goku y Pan empiezan la búsqueda con la ayuda de Giru. El primero en ser hallado parece ser un dragón débil y fácil de vencer, pero aún deberán averiguarlo al intentar arrebatarle la primera esfera.
